Philly Teen Jumped After School BBall Game

School district suspends 4 rival players for attack

A South Philly high school basketball player was thankful to be alive after being jumping following a game at rival Overbrook.

"I was thanking God because I coulda died or I could be blind or something," Kyhir Davis said.

The 16-year-old was still recovering from his injuries Friday.

"Some of my teeth are really loose and I have cuts on my hands and some cuts on my face..."

The South Philadelphia High School junior says he was attacked by a group of kids as he and his teammates were leaving Overbrook High School after a game Tuesday night.

On Friday the school district responded to the attack by suspending four Overbrook basketball players who allegedly attacked Kyhir as he got on the team bus.

"Everybody got on the bus first -- I was last person to get on. Then when I got on the bus I felt the hit... then I felt another hit then I felt someone snatch me off the bus."

Kyhir says he was kicked, punched, had ice thrown on him and then blacked out. He was taken by ambulance to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

"I get a call from coach Anderson and he says, 'something happened were taking him to the hospital,'" said Kyhir's mother Civitavecchia Scott

She took some of the pictures at the hospital Wednesday night that showed her son’s extremely swollen face.

"This was a completely, absolutely avoidable situation," she said.

She is angry not only because her son was attacked but because she says no one tried to help him.

"Everybody said that the bus driver didn't open the door," Kyhir said.

"He was banging on the door to the bus trying to get in and then he got hit again," his emotional mom said. "I'm trying to figure out why would you leave him outside like that?"

As for the alleged attackers.

"It is possible that these young people, given that they were athletes may be barred from participating publicly any further," said school district spokesman Tomas Hanna.

The Overbrook students, however, weren't criminally charged.

It isn't clear what started the fight.
