PPA's New Foe

It seems like the Philadelphia Parking Authority will soon have another enemy for A&E’s “Parking Wars.”
Delivery trucks.
In their latest attempt to try and unclog city traffic, the Philadelphia Parking Authority sat down with all the businesses and merchants in Center City.
Trucks from companies like Fed Ex, UPS and DHL racked up almost 9,800 parking tickets last year and backed up traffic by parking in the street, according to KYW.
“One double-parked truck can tie up traffic for blocks behind it,” Parking Authority strategic planning director Rick Dickson said.
The PPA plans to restrict parking between Chestnut and Walnut from seventh to twentieth streets to non-deliveries between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. After those hours, the trucks can’t park on the streets.
17 new “truck loading zones” are being designated on the numbered streets, as well as on Sansom and Moravian, away from store fonts.
And for the delivery trucks that just accept the tickets as part of their business costs?
“We have tow trucks and can move those trucks,” Dickson said.
