President-elect Barack Obama arrived in Philadelphia Monday evening in preparation for his visit to the National Governors Association’s (NGA) special economic meeting Tuesday.

Obama is in town to listen to the concerns of the nation’s governors at the 2008 NGA Centennial Meeting. The governors are expected to plead with the forthcoming president to help find money to feed states’ ever-increasing hunger for funds in the current economy.

“We will try to help him sell the recovery package to the American people.  The republicans will do that as well as the democrats,” said Governor Ed Rendell.

Once his plane hit the gate Monday, Obama was quickly ushered into a motorcade to make his way to a private meeting with Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell and 27 other Democratic governors at 7:30 pm in the Independence Visitors Center.

“It was a social meeting, the President Elect wanted to thank the governors for what they did during the election,” Rendell told NBC 10.
Following the meeting was a casual dinner a few blocks south at the Old City Tavern.

One thing Rendell said he wants to discuss at Tuesday's meeting, aside from the struggling economy, is the nations Infrastructure.

Vice President Elect Joe Biden and Gov. Sarah Palin are also in Philadelphia for the meeting that is scheduled to start shortly before noon.
