The gunman responsible for shooting an off-duty police officer and a 20 year-old Drexel student inside a crowded movie theater is still on the loose.
Police say the masked gunman jumped over the counter and began rummaging through the cash register at The Bridge theater Friday night, with no intention of being stopped by the off-duty Pa. State Capitol police officer, who yelled, “Stop, police!” at the robber.
The gunman fired five shots inside the crowded theater. One striking the officer in the shoulder and another bullet hit the Drexel student in the leg, Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker said.
Walker called the robbery and shooting “a brazen act,” because of the crowd.
Both victims were listed in critical condition after the shooting, but have since been released from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
“We’re looking for anyone who may have any information, may have been in that area, either at The Bridge or anywhere west on Walnut Street, or in the area of 41st and Spruce,” Walker said during a press conference Wednesday. That is where the man was last seen.
Police also said the man wore a mask inside the theater, but once outside, he threw it to the ground.
The shooter is described by police as a black male in his early to mid-20s and approximately 5’10” tall. He was wearing a black jacket, with a black hoodie underneath, and blue jeans.
