Man Gets 7-14 Years for Killing Cardinals Fan

Man killed St. Louis teacher outside of Citizens Bank Park in 2008

The Philadelphia man who ran down two tourists after a Phillies game, killing a St. Louis woman in 2008, was sentenced to seven to 14 years in prison Tuesday.

Joseph Genovese Jr., 20, pleaded guilty in February to vehicular homicide, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence for killing 53-year-old Cindy Grassi and injuring Sandra Wacker, who was 36-years-old at the time.

Genovese, who was 19-years-old at the time, ran a red light while driving drunk July 10, 2008 and crashed into the two St. Louis elementary school teachers while they were crossing the street after a Phillies-Cardinals game.

Wacker suffered a severe brain injury and a broken leg and Grassi died of her injuries.

Philadelphia Common Please Court Judge Benjamin Lerner said that the intoxicated and marijuana-hazed Genovese being at the wheel of his red Lexus was the same as “firing a gun into a crowd,” according to the Inquirer.

"This was no accident, to get yourself so completely blasted so you are totally unfit to operate a motor vehicle," Lerner told Genovese, reports the Inquirer.
