Philly commuters will be able to get to N.J. quicker in the coming year. The Delaware River Authority will soon install an express toll lane at Betsy Ross Bridge for E-ZPass users.

The DRPA will spend more than $350,000 to design the express lane that connects Philly and Pennsauken.

“It’s an energy saving measure which in some sense, we see as a green initiative because it cuts back on idle time,” said CEO of the Port Authority Robert Gross to KYW.

The E-ZPass lane will be completed by mid 2011. Drivers will pay $4 to drive out of New Jersey at 45 miles per hour just like at other toll roads, according to KYW.

The Commodore Barry Bridge may soon get an express E-ZPass lane as well after the express lane is installed at the Betsy Ross, according to Inky.

But what about Philly’s Ben Franklin Bridge and the Walt Whitman? They are unlikely to get an E-ZPass lane due to their traffic volume, reported the paper.
