Even though she can see why it's funny, Cathy Cruz Marrero isn't very happy that security footage of her falling into a fountain while texting and walking at the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing, Pa. made its onto the Internet.
And after millions of hits online she and her lawyer are threatening legal action.
The 49-year-old Reading woman who works at the mall does not think it’s funny that security workers did not come to her aid and instead put the face-first texting tumble on YouTube, complete with their commentary and laughter.
"Instead of laughing, they should have said, 'Is she OK?' and been down there right away to check on me," Marrero told the Reading Eagle.
The guard believed to be responsible for posting Marrero’s fall worked for U.S. Security Associates, Inc.
And the security company announced Friday that they took action against the reported video sharer:
“U.S. Security Associates provides security for Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, where a woman recently fell into a small fountain while texting on her cell phone. The security officer responsible for sharing the video of this incident has been terminated and is no longer with company. U.S. Security Associates does not condone this type of behavior and will work closely with the property owners to ensure processes are put in place to prevent it from happening in the future.”

Marrero says that she never texts and drives, and now she wants others to know that texting while walking has an array of dangers as well.
"Do not text and walk," Marrero said.
So what was so important she had to text at the moment she tumble into the fountain?
Someone she knew from church had e-mailed to ask when was Marrero's birthday.
