A 37-year old man is lucky to be alive after he was repeatedly kicked in the head and neck by a group of people outside an Upper Darby bar last Saturday.

"It was a vicious, sadistic attack," described Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood Tuesday.

The beating happened after the unidentified man allegedly got into an argument with a woman and son at Sean Og Irish Pub along West Chester Pike, police said. The argument spilled out into the sidewalk where the man was knocked unconscious to the ground.

Surveillance cameras then clearly captured several people repeatedly punch, kick and stomp on the man as he lay lifeless on the pavement. We've chosen to show the full attack video below, but the images are disturbing and viewer discretion is advised.

A Good Samaritan tried to step in and stop the melee, but he too became a victim, according to police. That man was forced to flee after being beaten by the mob.

The kicks continued to come until a police officer spotted the attack and quickly jumped into action -- arresting the mother and son. Police say a few more hits could have ended the beating victim's life had Officer News not arrived.

"News probably saved this guy from being kicked to death on the streets of our community," Chitwood said.

Rashad Carlton, 25, and his 45-year old mother Bonita were arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. Authorities are still searching for at least two other suspects as well as the Good Samaritan.

Carlton told authorities the fight began after the man disrespected his mother at the bar. Police plan to upgrade his charges to Attempted Murder.

As for the victim, he has several broken bones in his face and neck, but is expected to recover.
