97-Year Old Woman and Her Dog Escape Blast

Normal 0   It’s a miraculous story of survival in South Jersey.  A feisty 97-year old woman and her dog escaped an explosion that leveled their home. She described the ordeal to NBC 10 by telephone on Wednesday.

“All the sudden, it went boom!  And the ceiling come down on my head and side”, said Marion Sands.

It happened Tuesday night at 1001 Edgewood Lane in Cinnaminson, NJ.

"I picked up my dog and I turned around.  Couldn't go out the front because flames were shooting up.  I turned around and the whole side of my kitchen was missing", Sands said.

Several neighbors ran to help, including Ron Ruppert.

"I just looked at her and said Mrs. Sands, we need to get out of here”, said Ruppert.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the explosion.  It was felt as far as Palmyra, NJ.

Sands is recovering from a cut to her head and a broken rib at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
