Atlantic City Fire officials said they discovered a decayed body underneath Schiff’s Central Pier Saturday night after responding to fire.
Fire officials, who responded to the blaze around 5 p.m., said they are unclear how long the male’s body has been underneath the pier, reports the Press of Atlantic City.
The body was so badly decomposed that difficult to determine his race or age, according to officials. An autopsy was conducted on Saturday.
Investigators said the body may be a casualty from another fire was that set at the Central Pier on November 21 which destroyed four stores.
Police believe several people living underneath the pier set the fire to keep warm as temperatures steadily dropped throughout the evening.
Police are questioning one man in connection with the latest blaze.
