Stitches Better Than Staples After C-Section: Study

No matter when they deliver, women may have an easier recovery after a cesarean section if the surgeon uses sutures rather than staples to close the incision.

An obstetrician in the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa. studied 425 women who'd had a c-section.

Those who received staples to close the surgical site had more complications with wound healing.

The women with staples had to go back to the doctor more often for post-op visits than women who'd had stitches.
