Red Wine, Mice, and Weight Loss

A recent update in the battle of the bulge: French researchers are seeing promising results from a drug similar to extracts found in red wine.

In the study, mice were put on a high fat diet along with a low dose of the drug SRT1720. Scientists found that the mice were not only able to maintain their weight, but that their insulin levels were unaffected.

This could be good news for the many people who find a regimen of healthy eating and exercise too difficult to follow. Although the early results are promising, don't turn to the red wine just yet. Scientists estimate it could take gallons of wine to have the same effect in humans as in mice. So for now SRT1720 is still a story of mice and not yet men.
