Hep B Cure Could Be Discovered in Bucks Co.

If a hepatitis B cure is discovered, it might very well happen inside the walls of the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center in Bucks County.

Michael J. Sofia is hopeful a start-up company he co-founded — OnCore Biopharma — is the one that makes the breakthrough. OnCore Biopharma is in the early stages of developing a potential cure for hepatitis B, an infectious disease of the liver that afflicts an estimated 400 million people worldwide.

“We have identified some technologies that we are ready to hit the laboratory with,” said Sofia, who declined to provide details for competitive reasons. “They’ve been developed to an early-stage level. We need to further improve and optimize them to take them forward and make them clinic-ready.” Read more about this story on PBJ.com.
