New Jersey Hospitals to Supply Police With Overdose Antidote

Police departments in a South Jersey county will be able to obtain supplies of an overdose antidote for free through a partnership with three major hospitals.

The Burlington County Times reports the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office has entered into an agreement that calls for the hospitals to resupply county law enforcement agencies with naloxone, an overdose antidote often sold in the U.S. under the brand name Narcan.

Virtua, Lourdes Health System and the Deborah Heart and Lung Center have formed the partnership with the prosecutor's office to establish the Burlington County Narcan Assistance Program.

Prosecutors say the drug has been used 64 times by officers in the county this year.
