We Live in Best and Worst Counties for Health

Philadelphia county is dead last in this year's rankings for healthy living

People in our area live in some of the better and some of the worst counties in their state when it comes to ranking for healthy living.

The 3rd Annual County Health Rankings are out. They look at the overall health of nearly every county in every state, measuring how healthy people are and how long they live.

Chester, Montgomery and Bucks Counties are all in the Top 10 for Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia County is dead last.

In New Jersey, Monmouth and Burlington County rank among the Top 10 and Camden and Cumberland Counties are at the bottom of the rankings. Delaware’s counties ranked in this order: 1) New Castle 2) Sussex 3) Kent.

The Rankings use four major categories that affect a person’s health: health behavior, clinical care, social and economic factors and physical environment.

“The County Health Rankings show us that much of what influences our health happens outside of the doctor’s office. In fact, where we live, learn, work and play has a big role in determining how healthy we are and how long we live,” said Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., M.B.A., president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
