Brainpower!

Prescription drugs okay to fire up your brain

Should healthy people use prescription drugs to boost their brainpower?  A panel of medical and ethical experts, including a Philadelphia scientist, says its okay.

Thousands of college students are doing it already, experts said.

Stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin are prescribed for ADHD, but some students use those drugs to retain information and for better concentration.

Another drug, Provigil, is supposed to be for sleep disorders, but healthy people use it to stay alert when they are sleep deprived.

One of the study's authors is a brain scientist at the University of Pennsylvania.

The complete study is in the journal "Nature."
