If you were lucky enough to be driving along the Schuylkill around 7 p.m. Monday, you may have gotten a sneak peak at PECO's new crown lights.

The 38-foot high electronic signs, which adorn the four corners energy company's Market Street headquarters, have been dark since the New Year.

PECO is upgrading the system from old-fashioned incandescent bulbs to energy efficient light emitting diodes (LEDs).

The new lights will not only be able to scroll messages – like it's predecessor – but also project full-color videos and images.

The energy efficient signs will be able to display video and images, unlike the original.

PECO will officially unveil the signage on July 4 during the city's Welcome America! celebration with a special seven minute presentation.
