Car Share for the Masses

The people over at PhillyCarShare want you behind the wheel of one of their hybrids, cars, trucks and/or vans.

That’s why PCS announced a new rate plan Thursday geared towards people who don’t need cars all the time but some of the time instead.

“We think this is great news for Philadelphia,” said Executive Director Gerald Furgione, “We’re looking forward to being a viable option for those who just don’t need a car every week or even every month. We want to make PhillyCarShare accessible and affordable for all Philadelphians.”

The Keystone Plan costs just $35 a year, far less than the traditional $15 per month Philadelphia Plan. The new plan costs less upfront but could cost more per rental.

“The PhillyCarShare Keystone plan is perfect for Philadelphia city-dwellers who usually get around just fine on SEPTA, on a bicycle, or on their own two feet -- PhillyCarShare can best fill the need for any other trip,” said Furgione.

In the Philly Plan cars start a $3.45 per hour with a quarter per mile mileage fee, the Keystone Plan costs $7 per hour during the week and $9 during the weekend but allows drivers 185 miles per trip on any of the 250 shared cars.

The non-profit will allow members to change between the plans at any time.
