Chris Coons: Candidate for Senate in Delaware

County Executive Tests Statewide Appeal

Chris Coons has been making his name in New Castle County for a decade.

The Democratic U.S. Senate nominee, Coons, was elected Preisdent of New Castle County Council in 2000.  In 2004 he was elected County Executive.   Coons first foray into politics was during his college years in the 2980's working with Republican lawmakers.  Later, he would switch parties

Coons has degrees from Amherst, Yale Law School and Yale Divinity School.  In addition to his work in politics, Coons spent 8 years in at W.L. Gore & Associates, the Newark-based makers of Gore-Tex fabrics.  The company was founded by his stepfather.

Chris Coons ran unopposed in the 2010 U.S. Senate Democratic special election.  The seat is in play because of Joe Biden's 2008 election as Vice President.  Former Biden Chief-of-Staff Ted Kaufman was named as the interim Senator until the 2010 election.

A resident of Wilmington, Chris Coons is 47-years old.  He's married, with three children.
