One local expert in women’s leadership has a term for most of the Greater Philadelphia constituency of CEOs: SWAM.
Straight, white, able-bodied men.
These “SWAMs” dominate the region’s C-suites, especially its highest offices. In the Philadelphia Business Journal’s list of the 100 Highest-Paid CEOs, only six of the individuals heading up their company are women. If you look at all of the area’s public companies, only 14 percent of CEOs are female, according to the Forum of Executive Women, a local advocacy and networking group for female business leaders.
