Rentals Up At Shore Towns, Strong Summer Season Ahead: Officials

Tourist-filled beaches and boardwalks over Memorial Day weekend brought an optimistic outlook for the summer season to many Jersey Shore business owners' minds – a perspective backed by higher rental rates in several vacation destinations.

"We are ahead of last season," said Michele Gillian, executive director of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce. "The hotels and motels are also reporting an upswing."

Vacation home rentals for the family-oriented resort town are up about 25 percent this summer compared with the same time point last year, Gillian said.
