South Street's Security Goal

    South Street is in the midst of turning a corner. With modern bars and restaurants, burgeoning shops and an art-and-food festival that just drew thousands, it's got an increasingly affluent clientele with deeper pockets in its sites.

    Sure, the lingerie and sex stores are still there, and it's seen its share of crime and vandalism over the years. But a new plan is in place to deter crime and catch criminals in the act.

    The South Street Headhouse District is encouraging local businesses to install security cameras and it's even pointing them to an offer from the city's Commerce Department where they can get a 50 percent reimbursement(up to $3,000) on equipment and installation costs. Those companies would just need to agree to allow police to use the security cameras if investigating a crime. Read more about this story on PBJ.com.
