GlaxoSmithKline Planning to Lay Off About 150 in Pennsylvania

Planned layoffs first announced by GlaxoSmithKline in December are about to begin in the Philadelphia region.

The pharmaceutical giant filed a WARN (Worker adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry in late February indicating it will be eliminating 150 “roles” across GSK’s commercial and research-and-development businesses in Pennsylvania during the first and second quarters of 2015. The company also stated in the notice that it's “eliminating certain operating units in Pennsylvania, including in and around Philadelphia.”

Melinda Stubbee, a GSK spokeswoman, said the company doesn’t have a breakdown of the affected jobs by location at this time.
