No Tourism Ad Campaign for NJ

In the ever-evolving dispute over the New Jersey budget cuts being made by Gov. Chris Christie seemingly no one is being sparred from the cuts.

The Garden State's tourism budget was the latest area to feel the direct effects of the cuts.

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno announced at the 2010 Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Atlantic City that $2 million was cut from the tourism budget; which usually goes towards tourism marketing in the spring for the coming summer shore season.

“It was a tough decision, but it was one that had to be made.” Guadagno told The Inky Friday.

The state simply can’t afford to support the tourism effort for the rest of the fiscal year, which ends in June, according to Christie’s office.

Guadagno also told The Inky that she has suggested that all state departments -- including Environmental Protection, Agriculture, and Treasury -- group their advertising resources to market a unified image for New Jersey.

There is no word yet how, or if, N.J. will still advertise for this summer without their usual budget.
