Free Financial Help

If you’ve struggled with credit card debt, lost your job or your home during these tough economic times, there is now free help for you.

Legal and financial professionals are volunteering their time to give free help to anyone who is trying to recover from hardship caused by the economy.

The initiative is a new program organized by United We Serve, an online resource to help find and develop volunteer opportunities. It was created by President Barack Obama’s Administration. Governor Ed Rendell answered the call by the President and First Lady to start the initiative in Pennsylvania.

Rendell has enlisted financial analysts, bankers, and attorneys to sit at help desks in many county bar association offices.

There are a total of 22 sites in the state. Three of them are in the Philadelphia area. Those locations include:

-Drexel University, Earle Mack School of Law, 3320 Market St., Philadelphia, PA 19104
-Bucks County Bar Association, 135 E. State St., Doylestown, PA 18901
-Chester County Bar Association, 15 W. Gay St., West Chester, PA 19380

The help desks will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 6 p.m. 2,000 volunteers are expected to offer assistance across the state. The program will end on September 11, 2009.

Volunteers will not provide legal advice.
