FBI Gets Ethics File on Pennsylvania Liquor Board: Official

A top Pennsylvania State Ethics Commission official says he turned over the agency's investigative case files on the state liquor control board to the FBI.

The ethics commission's executive director, Robert Caruso, said Friday that he handed over the files in response to FBI subpoenas received in the past three months.

The subpoenas arrived after the ethics commission punished four former officials at the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board for not reporting gifts they had accepted from vendors. Caruso declined to say exactly what the subpoenas sought.

The U.S. attorney's office in Harrisburg is declining comment and a liquor control board spokeswoman says the agency hasn't had any contact with federal investigators, including requests for information or subpoenas.

The Tribune-Review newspaper of Pittsburgh was the first to report the development.
