The First State’s gamble on allowing gambling on NFL games has started to pay off.
Delaware has made more than $830,000 in 12 weeks of NFL sports betting, said acting State Finance Director Tom Cook.
That total takes into account the loss of $306,000 in a massive payout after 11 of the 13 favorites covered the spread in October, he said.
Delaware can handle a “rough week” because officials count on more and more people betting on NFL games, Cook said. Last weekend 58,514 bets totaling $738,143 came in, compared to 14,000 bets totaling $250,000 the first week.
Over the last four weeks, the state brought in between $105,000 and $187,000 each week in revenues.
