Artist Selected to Design Center City Building Collapse Memorial

Plans for the completion of the memorial on the site of the building collapse on 22nd and Market streets in Center City can now move forward, as an artist has been chosen to design the memorial’s centerpiece sculpture.

Barbara Fox, a Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) and University of Pennsylvania alumnae, was chosen during a design contest by PAFA. CEO David Brigham led the search committee.

"Barb Fox stood out among all the entries because her proposal was ideally suited to recognizing those who were killed or injured,” Brigham said in a statement. “Her ideas about an architectural presence, a place to quietly reflect, and her use of light, color, scale, and poetry all provide a moving context for somber reflection as well as healing."
