Acme Plans to Close 5 Stores in Philly Area

Acme Markets announced that it would close five unprofitable stores in the Philadelphia and South Jersey area by the end of February.

The Pa. stores are in Limerick and Wayne while the N.J. stores to close are in Cinnaminson, Millville and Moorestown.

ACME explained their decision in a released statement:

ACME strives to ensure the success of all its stores.  However, given the competitive markets we operate in, and today’s difficult economic environment, it is occasionally necessary to close those stores that are not profitable.  While the decision to close a store is always difficult—given the impact on associates and customers -- these were made only after careful evaluation and were guided by what is best for ACME’s long-term growth and success as a whole.

Now, more than ever, it is critical that we not lose focus on improving the business, satisfying our customers and staying strong in this economy.
