Vest Saves Jet Skier's Life After Accident in Delaware River

The Philadelphia Coast Guard rescues a victim in a waverunner accident on the Delaware River

The Philadelphia Coast Guard rescued a man after a waverunner accident on the Delaware River.

According to Petty Officer Cindy Oldham, two jet skiers were riding near Timber Creek. They were following behind a tug boat and jumping the waves created by the wake. One of the jet skier, 23-year-old Casey Shubert, lost control and hit his head on his jet ski. He was unconscious and in the water. The tug alerted the Coast Guard and police.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Shubert was brought in to the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal on Broad Street and then taken to Hahnemann Hospital. He did regain consciousness, according to Oldham.

The Coast Guard asked us to remind you to wear a life vest if you're out on the water. Shubert did have his life vest on and Oldham says that saved his life because it kept him afloat while he was unconscious and allowed rescuers to get to him in time.
