Train Knocks Truck on Its Side

Freight train knocks dump truck sideways at Chester County train crossing

A train and truck collided in Chester County Wednesday morning in a crash that police say could have been much worse.

Luckily no one was hurt when an East Penn Train Line freight train came in contact with a dump truck carrying stone where the tracks cross the 300 block of Kennett Pike (Route 52) in Chadds Ford, Pa. a little after 9.

Chopper 10 captured the train, which appeared to be hauling metal beams, stopped at one end of the intersection with the truck knocked onto its side across the street.

County dispatchers say the driver of the truck got out of the wreckage without injury.

According to Kennett Township Police, a senior citizen was stopped at the train crossing when she saw in her rear view mirror the truck coming her way with smoke coming from its wheels.

Police say the woman did everything right as she quickly pulled her car over to the shoulder. The truck then swerved to avoid her car and went onto the tracks where it was hit.

Traffic was stopped on both directions of Kennett Pike as investigators on the scene worked to figure out what caused the crash.

Police say it appears that all signals at the intersection were working properly and that the train had its horn blowing.
