DNA Links 3rd Woman's Murder to Serial Killer

On the same day Mayor Michael Nutter called him a "psycho" Philadelphia police called the Kensington Strangler a serial killer.

DNA results came back Tuesday, connecting the Kensington Strangler to the beating, rape and murder last week of Casey Mahoney. It's the same DNA that links the killings of Elaine Goldberg and Nicole Piacentini.

"As a result of this being the third murder, in a short period of time, in the same area, with the same type of victims, we do at this time consider it to be a serial murder," said Capt. James Clark.

"We just need one person to call us with the right lead," Clark said.

Earlier that same day, the Mayor and law enforcement held a community briefing in Kensington to announce $37,000 in reward money -- $7,000 going to whoever turns the suspect in.

"Let's get this psycho off the streets of Philadelphia," Mayor Nutter said. "We will not put up and tolerate this insanity on our streets."

Nutter said investigators strongly believed that someone in the neighborhood knows who the serial killer is, probably where he is and Commissioner Ramsey pleaded, "it's very, very important that we find this person before he has an opportunity to kill again or to rape again."
