Cars Flooded by Water Main Break Near Temple

Large water main floods Philly streets

A large water main break flooded streets near Temple University in North Philadelphia.

The rising water forced some evacuations after officials say a 30-inch water main broke around 6 a.m. Friday. Waters rose over the hoods of cars parked and approached their roofs, sending residents scurrying to move their vehicles.

The water began subsiding as crews shut off valves but the area around the intersection of Ninth and Berks streets was left a muddy mess.

Officials from the city's water and fire departments were at the scene.
