13-Year-Old Boy Shot, Gunman on the Loose

Police are on the hunt for a gunman who shot a teenager in South Philadelphia.

Police say the 13-year-old boy was sitting in the passenger side of a vehicle as his father was driving on the 2000 block of South Hemberger Street around 4:40 p.m. on Monday.

As he was inside, police say a gunman and another suspect walked over to the car and fired eight shots total.

The boy was struck once in the left arm and once in the buttocks. He was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he is currently in stable condition.

According to investigators, the 13-year-old victim's bike was stolen on Sunday. They suspect the shooting was somehow related to an argument over the theft.

Investigators say a detective who was working undercover witnessed the shooting and followed the suspects into a home on the 2000 block of Mountain Street. A barricade situation was declared and other officers responded to the scene.

Officials say they eventually took the owner of the home into custody after they found two guns hidden in a golf bag inside. The two suspects managed to escape however and are still on the loose.
