Suspected DUI Driver Cuts Off Cop Car, Officer Hurt

Cop suffers non-life-threatening injuries after being hit in store parking lot

A female Philadelphia Police officer was hospitalized Tuesday night after a car struck her police cruiser near a Northeast Philadelphia shopping center.

Police say the unidentified female driver was being investigated for DUI after she pulled her gray Chrysler New Yorker in front of the cop car along the 2200 block of Bleigh Avenue around 7:25 p.m.

The crash caused the unidentified 2nd District officer to hit her head. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition after complaining of dizziness.

Police say they expect her to be treated and released.

The other driver allegedly tried to flee but she was apprehended a short time later. Chopper 10 captured police investigating her car in the parking lot of the Target Store at 7400 Bustleton Ave. around 8 p.m.

Police say they believe she was under the influence.

NBC10 is working on finding out about possible charges for the driver.

This wasn't the only officer-involved accident Tuesday night where the driver tried to get away. Around 10 p.m., a motorcycle cop was struck by a vehicle along the 7200 block of Bustleton Avenue and the driver fled the scene.

Police say the cop wasn't seriously injured and the driver was caught down the road.
