Officials say a person is dead after a skydiving accident in Gloucester County

Officials say a man is dead after a skydiving accident in Gloucester County.

It happened during a jump at Freefall Adventures, a skydiving operation located at the Cross Keys Airport in Williamstown, Gloucester County. An accident occurred and the man went missing. Officials say they discovered the skydiver's body around 5 p.m. about 300 feet from his parachute in a field near Downer Road in Pitman, New Jersey.

A representative from Freefall told NBC10 the victim is a licensed skydiver, not affiliated with Freefall's school.

Wednesday's incident is not the first fatal crash that happened at Freefall. In May of 2011, C. Scott Shields, a mayor in Delaware County, died during a jump after his main parachute failed to open. Also in 2011, two men were hospitalized after a skydiving accident. In 2006, a veteran instructor and a beginning skydiver at Freefall died after their parachute reportedly only opened partially in a tandem jump.
