Women Rescued From Capsized Sailboat

Near tragedy was averted Tuesday afternoon when a boater rescued two women after their boat capsized in Toms River Township, N.J.

The women -- one in her 50s, the other in her 70s – were sailing when their small vessel capsized around 3 p.m. near the mouth of Silver Bay (near Barnegat Bay), said the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit.

The immediate aftermath of the wreck was caught on video by boater Craig Dierking.

Another nearby boat came over to help pull the women from the water. Luckily neither woman was hurt, police said.

The exact cause of the tip over wasn’t immediately clear but officials believe heavy wind could be responsible.

The capsized boat was eventually towed to shore.
