Roosevelt Boulevard Crash Knocks Out Power, Stops SEPTA's Broad Street Line Subway

A crash led to a power outage that caused troubles on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line subway as well as the busy Roosevelt Boulevard Friday morning.

The two-vehicle wreck along the Boulevard (U.S. Route 1) near 7th Street in the city's Olney section knocked out power to the area around 5 a.m. after a van slammed into a pole, bringing down a transformer. The crash site is about seven blocks from Broad Street.

"Southbound service on SEPTA's Broad Street Line has resumed with delays, however northbound service and Broad-Ridge Spur are suspended until further notice due to power problems caused by a power outage in the vicinity of 7th and Roosevelt Boulevard," said SEPTA spokeswoman Heather Redfern. "Customers can use the Route 4 and Route 16 bus for service on Broad Street."

Northbound "passengers should expect significant delays" as they shuttle bus between Erie and Fern Rock stations, tweeted SEPTA. [[381751311, C]]

After nearly an hour however, SEPTA resumed regular service on the Broad Street Line and Broad-Ridge Spur.

No word yet on what caused the crash. No one was hurt in the crash, said Philadelphia firefighters.

PECO restored service to 1,300 customers.
