Teen on Driving Lesson in Route 70 Crash

A 20-year-old woman dies after her car & a car driven by a student driver collide in Burlington County

A deadly car crash involving a teenager on a driving lesson caused Route 70 in Burlington County to be shut down in both directions Tuesday morning.

Crews responded around 10:45 a.m. to the violent two-car wreck on Route 70 near Tranquility Court in Southampton Township.

Early reports had at least two people trapped in the wreckage. It turns out three people were actually in the wrecked 2003 Hyundai Elantra and a Saturn sedan, New Jersey State Police said.

Police say the Elantra's driver, Elizabeth Hynoski, 20, of Toms River, clipped the rear side of a black ford SUV. This caused her to lose control of her vehicle and go into oncoming traffic. She then struck the Saturn, driven by a 16-year-old from Mount Laurel with her Medford-based instructor Tony Guerrera, 39, in the passenger seat.

Hynoski died in the crash, police said. Both the 16-year-old and Guerrera were taken to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center where they were listed in critical but stable condition. No one inside the Ford was injured, police said.

The Elantra's driver, Elizabeth Hynoski, 20, of Toms River, died in the crash, police said.

Chopper 10 arrived on the scene to find two cars with obvious front-end damage.

At noon, Route 70 westbound remained closed from Mile Road to Retreat Road as authorities investigated the crash.

The roadway finally reopened a little after 3 p.m., cops said.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
