J-Roll Doesn't Roll for Phils' Home Opener

Rollins late scratch from Phillies' lineup, Werth leaves game

Jimmy Rollins was removed from Philadelphia's lineup after being announced as the leadoff hitter during pregame introductions for the Phillies' home opener.

Rollins was injured while running on the field shortly before the first pitch against the Nats.

Juan Castro replaced Rollins at shortstop and atop the lineup Monday against Washington.

J-Roll didn't start because of a right calf strain he suffered pregame, Phillies broadcasters said during the third innings.

Rollins was stretching and running on the field minutes before the first pitch. He's been off to a great start, batting .391 (9-for-23) with a .516 on-base percentage for the two-time defending National League champions.

J-Roll wasn't the only one to get hurt Monday. After the fifth inning Jayson Werth also left the game with a sore left hip.

It wasn't clear how long Rollins and Werth would be out of the lineup. J-Roll was set to get an MRI Tuesday.
