Two police officers joined a gunshot victim they were rushing to the hospital in Temple University Hospital after a car crash with other vehicles at a Philadelphia intersection.
The incident began with a shooting on the 2400 block of Hollywood Street in North Philadelphia around 3 a.m. Wednesday, said Philadelphia Police.
Officers arrived to find a 24-year-old man suffering from at least three gunshot wounds in his leg.
"Police officer picked him up, put him in a police car and were transporting him to Temple Hospital with lights and sirens activated," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
As the police cruiser drove eastbound on Lehigh Avenue, a northbound Lexus struck the police car at the intersection with 25th Street, said Small. The impact then caused the police cruiser to slam into a Chevrolet Camaro going westbound on Lehigh Avenue.
Officers rushed the injured officers and the shooting victim to Temple University Hospital. Both police officers were treated and released — the driver with a concussion his passenger with bumps and bruises — while the gunshot victim was also listed in stable condition and didn’t appear to suffer any further injuries in the wreck, said Small.
Medics took the 29-year-old drivers of both other vehicles to Temple in stable condition.

The drivers of both civilian cars don’t have licenses, said Small.
"I don’t know what type of driving experience either of these drivers of the civilian vehicles had," said Small.
Police charged both men with driving without a license. Small said the crash remained under investigation Wednesday.
