Police Nab Alleged Kensington Rapist

A man allegedly responsible for a Kensington rape is in police custody but authorities haven’t said if he was involved in other rapes in the area.

Police arrested 37-year-old Quincy Williams a couple of days ago.

He was charged with one sexual assault from last year. Authorities matched Williams' DNA to the violent Nov. 17 attack on a prostitute at Kensington Avenue and Somerset Street, police said.

This wasn’t Williams first run in with the law, according to police. He was among the first of 76 men to be arrested for solicitation during a sting operation last November.

Police got his DNA after the original arrest but he was released then failed to appear at a court hearing. U.S. Marshals just tracked him down Tuesday in the Olney section of Philadelphia.

“As a result of his history and as a result of the case he was arrested for, it illustrates that he’s a violent man and needed to be taken off the street,” Police Captain John Darby said Thursday.

Police said all four Kensington rapes had a similar pattern, but they only linked Williams to one rape as of Thursday as they continued to investigate the other incidents.
