Chewed Wires Knock Out Power to Thousands

Power went out for more than 2,000 customers in North Philadelphia this morning and a rodent of some sort could be to blame.

The lights went out around 7 a.m. in the area around the 1300 block of N 13th Street near Temple University.

PECO reported 2,007 customers lost power.

A company spokesperson told NBC10 that an animal chewing through wires possibly led to the equipment failure that caused the outage.

Power started to come back on within 30 minutes and within 90 minutes the lights came back on for all but a handful of customers.
