New Jersey Carjacking Suspect Chase Ends in Baltimore

A police pursuit that began in South Jersey ended safely in Maryland just before the carjacking suspect entered the Ft. McHenry Tunnel Thursday night.

Trent Talley, 29, of Cinnaminson was arrested after leading police on a chase that began when he carjacked a man's Kia Soul from a mental health facility in Mt. Holly, N.J., according to New Jersey State Police.

Talley made his way onto the New Jersey Turnpike -- police in tow -- and headed toward Salem County before bridge police picked up the chase over the Delaware Memorial Bridge, said police.

Once he crossed the bridge, he was home free -- well, for a short time.

The chase picked back up when the car's owner, who was tracking his vehicle with GPS, called Maryland State Police. They made their way to a rest stop near the Ft. McHenry Tunnel where the suspect was on the phone. Once he spotted troopers, however, he hit the gas and tried to get away, said authorities.

Troopers alerted fellow officers who laid stop sticks on the road deflating two of the Kia's tires and slowing Talley, police said.

Authorities then used a "rolling roadblock" to force the suspect to stop at the entrance of the Tunnel.

Tulley was treated for minor cuts before he was taken into custody, police said. Charges against him in both Maryland and New Jersey are pending.
