Man Stabbed in Rittenhouse Square

Man stabbed in stomach at the stroke of Friday's happy hour in Rittenhouse

A 42-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach in Rittenhouse Square Friday afternoon, according to Philadelphia Police.

The man was stabbed at 18th and Walnut Streets -- at the heart of the “ritzy” part of Philadelphia. He was brought to Hahnemann University Hospital. The stabbing happened at about 5 -- around the time happy hour begins at the upscale restaurants that line the square.

The 52-year-old suspect was chased by police officers on bikes. He was caught and is now in police custody, officials said.

The man admitted to stabbing his friend -- possibly his step brother in the park, police said.

The man was in surgery Friday night and was expected to live, according to officials.

Both men who frequent the park said they were intoxicated at the time of the stabbing, cops said.
