Man Shot During Corner Store Hold Up

A man in his late 40s was shot in the lower back during an apparent robbery at a Hunting Park corner grocery store Thursday night, Philadelphia Police said.

The shooting happened around 8:10 at Gomez' Mini Market on the corner of 8th and West Lycoming Streets.

There were four people -- including the storeowner and his brother -- closing the store for the night when two masked men both carrying revolvers entered the market and attempted to rob place, police said.

During the robbery the owner's brother, Marcelino Rosario, was shot, police said.

Rosario apparently doesn't speak English and didn't understand when the robbers told everyone not to move, family members said.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition. His daughter rushed to the hospital to be by his side.

The alleged robbers both fled the scene in a minivan. They made off with about $100 in cash.

Nothing like this had ever happened in the three years since the family bought the store, they said.
