2 Dead, Others Injured in Serious Crash on 295 in South Jersey

Police identified two people who were killed in a crash on a major highway in Gloucester County Sunday morning.

Jasmine Gonzalez, 22, and Nkemjika Anyim, 22, both died in the accident.

The crash occurred on I-295 in Gloucester County, New Jersey around 8:20 a.m. Sunday near milepost 17 in East Greenwich Township.

Police say Gonzalez was driving an Acura in the left lane. Anyim was the front seat passenger while Alicia Leyman was sitting in the back.

As Gonzalez was driving, the driver of a Lexus traveling in the center lane suddenly lost control, investigators said.

The Lexus struck the Acura causing Gonzalez to lose control as well. The Acura then struck a guard rail and both Gonzalez and Anyim were ejected from the vehicle. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Lane as well as the driver and passenger of the Lexus were hurt in the crash. Lane was taken to Cooper Hospital and later released while the driver and passenger of the Lexus were taken to Inspira Hospital.

No charges have been filed though the crash is still under investigation. Police say there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

The highway was shut down in both directions while State Police investigated. All northbound lanes and the right lane southbound were later reopened.
