Damage Reports From Irene

Throughout South Jersey, Delaware, Philadelphia and the suburbs, Hurricane Irene knocked out power, took down trees and caused damage as the storm blasted through the region Saturday into Sunday.

Apartments on top of a Chinese restaurant collapsed early Sunday on the 2600 block of N 11st Street in North Philly. Initial reports were that no one was hurt.

A large tree fell at Castor and Solly Avenues in Northeast Philadelphia crushing a man's car as he was driving around 7 p.m.

“The light was red and the next thing I knew the tree just fell on top of me," Hugh Rawlins said.

Luckily he was OK.

In Ventnor Heights, N.J. a tree toppled along Victoria Avenue. Numerous trees were reported down along I-76 eastbound and westbound between Montgomery and King of Prussia.

Throughout the area there were reports of flooding including a large area at the Admiral Wilson Boulevard in Camden, N.J., a reported foot of water on Columbus Boulevard near Spring Garden Street and flooding at the Navy Yard.

And the Schuylkill River rushed beyond its banks early Sunday. The river could crest at record levels before it starts to go down again.

And plenty of residents were dealing with power outages and road closures.
