Philadelphia-Bound US Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ireland

A Philadelphia-bound flight returns to Ireland Thursday to make an emergency landing due to mechanical issues.

US Airways Flight 723 returned to Dublin Airport shortly after taking off around 11:15 local time Thursday.

The Boeing 757-200 then returned to the airport about 90 minutes later because one of the wing slats didn’t retract, said American Airlines spokeswoman Victoria Lupica.

Lupica said that such an incident is rather routine despite being considered an emergency landing. None of the 126 passengers on board suffered any injuries and the plane landed safely.

TheJournal.ie reported Irish emergency responders were called to the scene as a precaution.

Lupica said that it wasn’t clear when the 8-hour flight that was due to land at Philadelphia International Airport around 2:15 p.m. EST would be back in the air. The airline would do its best to re-accommodate passengers.
