Police Nab Fugitive Ex-Teacher

Innaurato found with a loaded gun in South Jersey

The former Delaware County teacher who allegedly burglarized several homes and was believed to be armed and dangerous was caught by police in South Jersey Wednesday morning.

Michael Innaurato, 30, was arrested during a morning traffic stop in Evesham, N.J.

Innaurato had a loaded .45-caliber handgun on him at the time of the arrest, cops said. The gun was allegedly stolen.

The arresting officer zeroed in on Innaurato's green Ford Escape after the officer's license plate reader, which scans plates to see if they are wanted, went off, Evesham Police said.

Police asked for the public's help to locate the former elementary school teacher after he was connected to several home burglaries.

Until last April, he was a fourth-grade teacher at Amosland Elementary School. That's when police said he abruptly quit his job.

On Feb. 6, police said Innaurato allegedly broke into his father's home and stole a safe, checks, cash and jewelry, as well as a .45-caliber handgun and ammunition. He is also a suspected in break-ins at homes of two other people he knew.

Innaurato is charged with being a fugitive of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property, said Evesham Police.

Bail was set at $50,000.

He faces extradition back to Pennsylvania where he will likely face felony burglary and related offenses, police said.
